Seeking isolation and peace Ball invites viewers into her private sanctuary of nature, solitude and mind. ‘Solitude’ acts as a form of phototherapy for Ball as she struggles to support her own well-being and mental health. By going off alone into the wilderness Ball gives herself the power to discover the rewards of isolation whilst also being able to reflect on the turbulence occurring elsewhere within her life.
Through these images Ball hopes to immerse the audience in a search for place and belonging. By layering images to overwhelm the mind – contrasting locations become haunting, suggesting that other troubles are still a matter of lingering torment.
